FAQs
What is Looma?
Looma helps you understand how their insurance is priced and what they can do to improve it. We request your data directly from insurers (with your consent) to generate a transparent, personalised insurance score. Think of it as applying the principles of personal credit scoring to car insurance.
Why are you asking for my data?
Your insurer, DVLA, MIB and insurance data brokers hold detailed information about you and your car. By requesting these data on your behalf, Looma gives you access to it too, thus helping you see what insurers see, and turning it into something useful.
Is this the same as a credit score?
Similar idea, different world. Credit scores show how you manage money; your Looma Score reflects how insurers perceive you.
How does Looma get my data?
Under UK data law, you have the right to request your personal data from any company. Looma automates this process (called a Data Subject Access Request, or DSAR) with your explicit consent, gathers your responses, and translates them into your Looma Score. You will always be able to see the original data too.
Will this affect my current insurance policy?
No. Looma only reads your data that already exists about you and your car. We don’t change or share anything with your insurer or any data-focused stakeholders in the insurance industry either, without your explicit consent.
How long does it take to receive my data?
Insurers typically respond within 30 days, though some are faster. If the data controller handling your request needs more time, they can take up to an additional 30 days but they must tell us and explain why. Not to worry though, as Looma handles everything and you’ll also be able to track progress inside Looma as your data arrives.
Why do some companies refuse to send data?
Most insurers respond within the legal timeframe, but some are still adjusting to the idea that consumers will actually use their right to access data. They’re required to share it, yet delays and refusals can occur when systems aren’t designed for automated requests like Looma’s. By making these requests visible and trackable, Looma helps surface those gaps – part of our goal is to make data access normal, not exceptional.
Is my data safe with Looma?
Yes. Your data stays encrypted and under your control. We’re registered with the ICO and comply with UK GDPR. Check out our Privacy Policy for more details.
What will I actually see once my data arrives?
You’ll see a visual breakdown of what’s stored about you: from policy details to claims history and your initial Looma Score. Over time, we’ll show how your actions and choices might shift that score.
Do insurers use my Looma Score?
Not yet. For now, it’s purely for your insight. But part of this pilot is to explore how insurers might later use the score to offer fairer pricing or faster quotes.
Is Looma free to use?
Yes.
Can I delete my data?
Absolutely. Your data belongs to you. You can remove it, pause sharing, or revoke consent whenever you like. We’ll delete everything except the absolute minimum records we’re required to keep for legal reasons. Check out our Privacy Policy for more details.
